Heritage & Manufacture:

The Sibelius CG-L is a re-fashioning of our classic oak loudspeakers, into a high density, 24 ply, 3cm thick, Baltic birch enclosure, so that they can be lacquer finished in a specific colour of the customers’ choice. Just like its originator, it is designed to deliver extremely lifelike sound reproduction for all genres of music. From solo voice to small ensembles, chamber, symphonic orchestras, electronic and full on rock.  The Sibelius faithfully reproduces the full dynamics of the original recording. It’s shallow drive cone delivers a very wide and natural soundstage. Close your eyes and the enclosures disappear.

We selected high density, 3cm Baltic birch for three reasons: one, because we simply could not bring ourselves to lacquer natural oak. Two, the structure in natural oak does not take kindly to lacquer, Three: High density, 3cm thick,  Baltic Birch ply is the closest we can get acoustically, to the natural oak Sibelius SG and CG.

Each enclosure is hand built, without nails, screws or internal battens. The craftsmanship required to produce our extremely high quality finish is considerable, incorporating multiple layers of preparation. Each layer is hand sanded and polished between coats, building up for the final top coat of lacquer. The drive cones are three times tested and matched into pairs and then run-in for 360 hours prior to placing and final QA testing. Our run-in tracks vary from classical to rock music, from jazz to folk and speech to large scale opera. This means your CG-L loudspeakers will be ready to play when you receive them.

The Sibelius CG-L is a single drive unit, floor-standing loudspeaker utilizing an internal front loaded, quarter wave ‘V’ horn. It has a shallow, all alloy drive cone which is mounted into a lacquered, 3cm thick, 24 ply, high density Baltic birch ply enclosure. Apart from the internal connecting leads, terminal posts and internal dampening materials, The Sibelius CG-L has no other components.

Pairing: Because The Sibelius CG-L delivers so much detail (what comes in you hear) they are best paired with well designed, high quality source devices and amplifiers. This means; very low distortion, neutral, and extremely dynamic. We have no specific preference whether the amplifier design is single ended ‘Class A’ triode vacuum tube, or high quality solid state. In our listening rooms we use all kinds of amplifiers, even a pair of high output, Class D mono-blocks. If we have a preference, it is often for single ended ‘Class A’ but we have also had very good results with Class A ‘push pull’,  current dumping and AB amplifiers.
